1. Fundamental Physics in 2D Magnets and Heterostructures
Magnetic two-dimensional (2D) materials are unique condensed matter platforms, where long-range structural order and magnetic order coexist in atomically thin regime. While 2D magnets couple with dissimilar 2D materials including 2D semiconductors, 2D semimetals and strong spin-orbit coupling 2D materials, emergent physics and phenomena will be created. While two 2D materials with similar lattice constants overlap, a Moire pattern can be formed with a new lattice periodicity that is much longer than the pristine lattice constants, resulting in potential modulation and mini Brillouin zone. We utilize a wide range of optical approaches including imaging and spectroscopy to probe the properties of 2D systems.
